Task
Create a photography series for Public Service Broadcasting that captured not only the energy of the live performance, but also the atmosphere, scale and visual craft that defined the show as a whole.
Approach
Photograph the event with a focus on balancing large-scale stage composition with more intimate moments of performance, ensuring the imagery reflected both the spectacle of the show and the musicianship at its core. Use a mix of wide-angle framing, dynamic perspective and close-up detail to capture the interaction between lighting, staging, movement and sound, while carefully composing each shot to preserve the atmosphere and visual intensity of the live experience. Approach the project with an editorial eye, creating a set of images designed to feel cinematic, immersive and culturally relevant beyond the night itself.
Result
Deliver a final image set that captured the spirit of the performance through a considered balance of scale, energy and intimacy. Wide-angle shots emphasised the ambition and atmosphere of the live show, while tighter compositions highlighted the expressiveness of the musicians and the detail within the stage design. The photography resonated with both the band and its audience, with selected images going on to feature in a national newspaper both online and in print, extending the reach and impact of the work beyond the original event. The final series gave the performance a stronger cultural and editorial afterlife.
